School and University Projects

** In 2014 we decorated 14 schools! **

St Joseph’s Catholic School, Epsom

This project was carried out over four phases while the school was still in full operation. The project included offices, reception, staffroom, toilets and corridors, finishes to these areas included Vinyl Matt to painted ceilings and Diamond Matt to walls to give durability. All woodwork including skirtings, doors, architraves and glazed screens were finished in Gloss. All phases were completed on time and snag free with a delighted client.

The Pines School

In October 2014, Phillips Decorators were called to The Pines School in Bracknell to assist with the decorations of their refurbishment project. The project consisted of six classrooms, three sets of toilets, a library, reception and a new modular unit. Using Dulux products, all painted ceilings were finished in Vinyl Matt and the walls were finished in Acrylic Eggshell, except the wet areas which required Mouldshield Eggshell. All of the woodwork was finished in either Stained Varnish or Gloss Paint. The whole project was completed within the three months set out by the client and to the high standard they expected from us.

The Pines School is a Primary school set in the desirable area of Bracknell which accommodates for children from the ages of three to eleven.

Fair Oak Junior School

Fair Oak junior School has just undergone a £1.5m refurbishment which started in Easter this year (2014). The project was set out in five phases, four of which Phillips Decorators were responsible for the decorations. Each of the phases which we were involved with consisted of expertly applying Emulsion to the ceilings and walls, also Satinwood was precisely applied to all of the woodwork. The completed project, which was finished at the end of October, gave the school a fresh new look, ready for the autumn term to begin. Our client was delighted with the result and they were so happy with the high standard to which the decorations were completed to that they will be giving us more projects to follow. We look forward to working with Fair Oak Junior School in the future.

Springfield First School

Phillips Decorators were asked to carry out decoration works at Springfield First School in Worthing this month in their new building, which consisted of two large classrooms, a reception, a staff room and toilets. There were also decoration works seen to in the existing school building both internal and external. All of the internal finishes were Dulux Vinyl Matt which was applied to the ceilings and walls, the woodwork was painted with gloss and the external finishes were Dulux Ultimate Opaque and stained varnish.
This project was a pleasure to work on as all of the different trades were working together to get the job completed on time and to a high standard. The finished result looked brilliant and the school was over the moon.

Springfield School, which opened in 1992, is a 240 place First School providing education for children aged between 4 and 8 years, serving parts of Broadwater and East Worthing.

St Richards Catholic Primary School, Chichester

This contract at St Richards Catholic Primary School in Chichester consisted of a new two storey building, including the school’s new classrooms, a library and staffroom areas. Also associated with this contract was various other decorating projects including the main hall, corridors, toilets and other classrooms which were all decorated using Dulux products such as Diamond Matt which was applied to the ceilings and walls, Gloss was applied to the woodwork. This project was carried out over three weeks, it was completed on time and snag free.

Our client was so impressed with the project at St Richards School that they have recommended Phillips Decorators to Springfield School in Worthing!

Bishop Luffa School, Chichester

Phillips Decorators Ltd have recently completed another project at Bishop Luffa School. The building is a 50 year old Church of England Senior School situated in Chichester, West Sussex.
Since September 1997, Bishop Luffa School has acquired Technology College Status and has become a Beacon school. In 2001, 2002 and 2003 the school received a DfES Achievement Award for excellence. The buildings are divided into subject areas with a large design and technology centre and a science laboratory block consisting of ten laboratories with four preparatory rooms. The school has an excellent resource centre, a gymnasium and multi-gym, a four-court sports hall and an enlarged library.

The works included many areas of the school including the library, new office, new toilets, new classroom, existing toilets, corridors and lobbies. All works were carried out over five weeks to a very tight programme. This tight programme had to be adhered to due to the school being open during all of the works. Our Decorators used emulsion on the ceilings and walls. All of the new glazed screens were sand sealed and varnished. All other woodwork was glossed. Once again, the school and the client were very happy with the finish and timely manner in which the job was finished up to a high standard.

Portsmouth University, Eldon Building

Phillips Decorators have recently completed decorating works at The Eldon Building which is part of Portsmouth University.

The works were started in July and we are pleased to report that they were completed on time finishing in September as predicted even with various changes as the contract grew. The works consisted of the usual painting and decorating works using Dulux emulsions, ecosure and eggshell to the usual areas. The floors needed to be prepared and painted using Glidden’s Endurance smooth floor paint, which is a single pack polyurethane product.

The works were spread over 3 floors which included Architecture/Interior design rooms on the 3rd floor, Fine Art studios, canteen and offices on the ground and 2nd floors.

We’re all under pressure to be sustainable these days, but traditionally, using eco-paints has meant sacrificing on performance. But when Phillips Decorators proposed the idea of using Dulux’s Ecosure range to the designer, they couldn’t think of a better paint to use. There was no sacrifice to the performance or finish and it was eco-friendly. Everyone was a winner.

Our client Morgan Sindall who are very strict with their contractors on Health and Safety and were true to form ensuring all the appropriate Risk and Method statements were provided and adhered to with regular checks from Morgan Sindall Health and Safety team to ensure our correct use of our P.P.E.

We have been an approved and preferred contractor to Morgan Sindall for the last 8 years, making Phillips Decorators thier first choose for quality and value.

Oaklands Catholic School

Over the past 10 years Phillips Decorators have decorated the majority of this school. On this occasion the main focus was on the white house, which is the main building.

The staff and reception areas were targeted. All communal areas including corridors, staircases and lobbies were decorated. This was achieved by using high quality products to all of the ceilings, walls and woodwork.

As it was the school summer holidays, Phillips Decorators only had a short time scale to complete the whole job, but again the whole job was completed well within the allotted time. To top that off, alot of the school staff gave Phillips Decorators positive comments and even the head teacher was impressed!

Steyning Grammar School

Steyning Grammar School employs Phillips Decorators every time, so you could say we are doing something right again....

Phillips Decorators were sent back to Steyning Grammar School again over the Easter Holidays in 2014 to decorate the large staircase in the gym area. This project turned out to be quite a task as the entire wall surfaces were in poor condition and the client requested an Acrylic Eggshell finish which highlights every blemish on the wall. But once it was finished it looked flawless and everyone involved was very happy with the finish.

Another busy summer in 2013 for Phillips Decorators at Steyning Grammar School. The focus this time was to freshen up some of the communal areas. This included the main corridor, which is one of the most used communal areas and is over 80m long! To achieve this, Phillips Decorators painted the ceilings, walls and woodwork.  The dining area required powered acce ss to reach high level ceilings. The team applied emulsion to all walls, gloss to woodwork and button polish to handrails. Phillips Decorators also did work on the new library and two classrooms. These were all decorated to a high standard which resulted in a delighted facilities manager.

Phillips Decorators have carried out redecoration works for Steyning Grammar School. The work included painting ceilings & walls of the various classrooms around the school. Also, Phillips Decorators completed the redecoration of the main Gymnasium. To achieve this, all previously painted surfaces were prepared and two coats of Vinyl Matt emulsion were applied to the ceilings. Three coats of Diamond Eggshell were applied to the walls and two undercoats, finished off with one coat of Gloss. As with most schools nearly all the works had to be carried out in the half term or summer breaks or even over the weekends.

The paints used at Steyning Grammar School are always ICI Paints and on any stained woodwork we would use Sadolins Extra.
