Royal Hospitals

** In 2014 we decorated 4 hospitals! **

Royal Hospital Chelsea

The Royal Hospital Chelsea project got Phillips Decorators excited with the high ceilings, ornate cornice and moldings, big bay windows with shutters and lots of character. All of the ceilings were fully prepared in lining papers and painted in an off white colour using David Oliver paints. Mouldings on the walls were brought in with wall colour which again was David Oliver Paint. All of the woodwork, including railings in the Foyer, were painted using Papers and paints oil eggshell. Once the project was finished the client was delighted and has given us the opportunity to do more work on this project at a later date.

Sir Christopher Wren's original design for the Royal Hospital Chelsea was for it to house 412 veterans and their officers around Figure Court (now the centre quadrangle). Whilst the buildings were in construction it was realised that the space would be insufficient and Wren added two further quadrangles to his design - now called Light Horse and College Court. In 1692 work was completed and the first Chelsea Pensioners were admitted in February 1692 and by the end of March the full complement of 476 were in residence.

Chest Pain Clinic, Royal Bournemouth Hospital

The Chest Pain Clinic at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital came with a very sensitive contract as the hospital was fully open, this required all trades on their best behavior which was adhered to. The project was carried out over two phases, ground floor and then the first floor. This included painting the steelwork in gloss, also all of the walls were finished in acrylic eggshell and the woodwork was also painted in gloss. Both phases were completed well inside contract period and snag free, which once again, resulted in a delighted client.

The Chest Pain Clinic at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital is a modern, private and comfortable experience for the patients of the Trust’s Chest Pain Clinic. The nurse-led chest pain unit, which was previously based in the Acute Admissions Unit at Watford General Hospital, relocated to a purpose-built unit at the entrance of ward 21 in November 2011. It now sits with complementary cardiac services such as the Coronary Care Unit and the Cardiac Investigations Unit.

Royal Hampshire County Hospital

RHCH Florence Portal, Winchester

Phillips Decorators were very busy in May this year, with work from the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.

The works were carried out on the Florence Portal Maternity Building. Work in this sensitive area had to be carried out over a number of visits, due to the client’s request. Works carried out included painting out in Acrylic eggshell to a very high standard. The work focused mainly on the recovery room, birth room and the corridors. The walls were painted in white, whilst the birth room walls were painted in tranquil colours.Since works were completed at the end of May, Phillips Decorators have been given more work at the hospital including painting floors in various departments.
