High Street Shops

Jigsaw- Norwich

Right in the middle of a busy high street in Norwich, Phillips Decorators have been busy giving the Jigsaw store a much needed redecoration. This project had a very tight program of just ten days, this consisted of tape and jointing all the internal walls and patch repairing ceilings. Emulsion was applied to ceilings and walls to give them a fresh, clean look. The changing rooms were transformed with new wall paper and the woodwork was protected using a durable Satinwood. The shopfront was given a new lease of life with a fresh finish and the back of house area was also redecorated. The whole project was completed on time and to a perfect finish.

Jigsaw is a British company that has been involved in the design, manufacturing and retailing of clothes and accessories for over forty years. Founded by John Robinson in 1969, Jigsaw is still privately owned by him and his wife Belle. The first Jigsaw stores opened in Hampstead and Brighton and the company has since expanded to over 40 stores in the UK and a successful e-commerce business.

Gant- Harrods London

Working alongside a shopfitting company, Phillips Decorators carried out some alteration works at Gant in London’s famous Harrods department store.

This particular project consisted of making repairs to the ceilings where the lighting had been removed and then the hanging of new wall coverings around the new joinery fittings.

Due to the shop continuing to trade during the day, all of the work had to be carried out at night. This is a normal occurrence for these types of projects and we are lucky to have an enthusiastic workforce who accepts this and get the pleasure of working at one of the world’s largest and most famous department stores.

Inspired to become part of the American dream, Ukranian-born designer Bernard Gant established his eponymous menswear label in New York in 1949. Now an international sartorial force with casual-smart East Coast designs and impeccably cut preppy-style shirts at the core of their fashion philosophy, Gant seamlessly combine traditional American design with a European flair.

Burberry- Bicester Village

Phillips Decorators
have recently completed a fast track project on a Burberry store in the Chic Bicester Village shopping outlet.

The whole project was turned around in just a week by all of the trades. Burberry chose a neutral colour which has become known as Pure White. The ceilings and walls were painted in Dulux Diamond Matt and all of the woodwork was finished in Gloss of the same colour, which gave the whole place a new fresh feeling. This created a pristine blank canvas for Burberry to show off and display their luxury brand.

Russell & Bromley- Guildford

The project was to redecorate the windows on the first and second floors, which included removing and reinstating the pigeon deterrent, also the staff room and toilets were decorated at Russell & Bromley in Guildford. After Phillips Decorators removed the pigeon spikes from the ledges and netting from the apex, all windows, cornice and downpipes were prepared by cleaning the surfaces with fungicidal wash and the loose and defected coatings were scraped back. The cracks to masonry were raked out and filled with toupre masonry repair filler and sand to a firm edge. Two coats of white sandtex smooth masonry paint were applied to apexes and cornices. Also, two coats of sadolins ebony wood stain were applied to woodwork and two coats of black rustoleum to metal windows and downpipes. The bird netting and pigeon spikes were reinstated upon completion.

Russell & Bromley is an English shoe retailer with a high-street retail operation. The business headquarters is based on Farwig Lane in Bromley, London, England. White Stuff- West Quay

What a lovely job for our new client in Southampton. Phillips Decorators Ltd were delighted when asked to work in Southampton’s West Quay shopping centre on a new retail shop, White Stuff. White Stuff is a fashion and lifestyle brand selling casual women’s and men’s clothes and accessories in over 80 UK shops and online. Since the very beginning (1985), White Stuff has been putting ‘happy-ness in every stitch’ of what they do. The company sells beautiful women’s and men’s clothes, accessories and home stuff. Their unique prints are designed in-house, they love colour, and never do black.
Works carried out on this project included taping and jointing to all walls and ceilings. Applying farrow and ball paints to ceilings, walls and woodwork with the exception of some feature walls and bulkheads that required hanging handmade wallpapers, which really set the shop off.
Work to the back of house areas included painting the floor in the stockroom and applying emulsion to walls with gloss to woodwork. Phillips Decorators would like to say this job was a pleasure to be part of the team and look forward to the next project with our new satisfied customer. Dealing with the client and designer was great, also having my own input and helping design a lovely looking shop.

Oxford Street- London

Phillips Decorators have been for the past eight weeks working closely with a new client, 33 London, in one of London’s best known landmarks Oxford Street.
The works involved the preparation and decoration of some 180 timber windows and frames on four elevations and an internal light well area, as with all projects it soon became apparent that the windows required more repairs than first thought.
Once the scaffold was erected we could see the repairs were quite major to areas and the masonry was also damaged, our client 33 London instructed Phillips Decorators to undertake all the timber repairs and instructed a masonry repair company for all other repairs.
Working closely with both companies Phillips Decorators have met the challenge and are on course to finish the works by the 8th October.
We had to renew some windows, major scarfing repairs to a large number of windows and new cills installed to other windows.
In total we had approximately eight operatives on site at various times to achieve the dates required in order for the scaffold to be striked elevation by elevation and all works were completed and handed over to the client ontime in October 2013.

Phillips Decorators were successful with their tender for the decoration works which comprised of both internal & external decorations.
Working with SMC Project Services (Main Contractors) to co-ordinate and prioritise the works due to a tight contract period, Phillips decorators commenced on site on Monday 19th September 2013 with two weeks to complete all decoration works.
As with all projects problems occur and this project was no different, in the areas to be decorated the plaster was blown and needed to be hacked off and plastered, doors required extra preparation whist other areas that were not picked up on the survey required to be decorated.
Phillips Decorators met and overcame these obstacle’s and in order to meet the project program. The decorators Worked through the night on the last day after all other trades had finished to touch up and repair where required to ensure correct standard of finish was achieved.
With all last minute repairs done and snagging completed handover was completed on time.
